Richard Sapper

Richard Sapper was born in 1932 in Monaco of Bavaria and graduated in Business before starting his design career working for Mercedes-Benz styling department. He wasn’t even 30 years old when he moved to Milan, Italy, where he remained until his death in 2015. In a 60-year career he joined elegance and series production, leaving his mark on Italian-made Industrial Design. He designed everything from lighting solutions (design enthusiasts worldwide know his “Tizio” desk lamp, produced by Artemide since 1972) to clocks, tableware, cars and computers. He was awarded 11 “Compasso d’Oro”, the last one in 2014 for his career and “for having joined German and Italian genius in designing a multitude of products of extraordinary success in a variety of fields.”
